my first album of electronic music, World Premiere, is out now. along with it, i posted some lead sheets (sheet music) that i published of a couple of the songs. see my music projects to look and listen.
i have to say, having experimented with various styles of electronic music, that i respect the skill of the producers and sound engineers of today's music industry. nevertheless, i don't think i will be doing much more work with electronic music - it just isn't for me. there is too much focus on technical, rather than musical aspects involved in electronic music production. every detail, from generating just the right synth patches, to sound fx and pads, to levels, eq, compression, and mastering, must be painfully tweaked until everything is just perfect. it also requires having a good handle on the popular electronic genres such as trance, drum 'n bass, house, etc... and ultimately i don't enjoy listening to the vast majority of these genres. as a musician, this has been a valuable experience, but i think i'm going to revert to my roots in live music and jazz.
ALSO, i'm psyched to start college this fall at Tufts U. turns out i'm going to be moving into the fourth floor of south hall, which sounds like a party from what i read on facebook. i'm already in contact with my orientation leaders, and my advisor group is a half-credit research group of (i think) all freshmen. here's a description of what i'll be working on starting in the fall:
The goal of this project is to explore the three components of a portable fiber optic environmental sensor system: LED light source, fiber optic sensor, and solid-state detector. The group will design and construct systems containing all three components. Building upon previous years' experience, we will be testing a prototype for detecting algae pigments such as chlorophyll. The design is based on the environmental parameters to be measured and the practical engineering limits of measurement such as expense and ease of use. Completed models will be tested in the laboratory and field where appropriate.
cool? i thought so...
April 29, 2006:
as my high school career is winding down, i have remained busy with school, music, the physics engine, colleges, and some other stuff.
there are a lot of demos now for my senior project. the 'Sandbox' applet is extremely powerful in demonstrating almost all the capabilities of the engine. i should be wrapping that up soon so check back in a couple weeks for some kind of game.
also, i've delved into the realm of electronic music, strange as it sounds. i guess my interest in computers and music has naturally led me to this. many musicians would be surprised at how hard it is to write good techno. it may not require a strong music theory or performance background, but it is truly a unique art form. check out my internetdj.com artist profile and songs here (alias DJ Resonant).
February 03, 2006:
I just added my senior project to the site, listed under programs. I have a number of very interesting demo applets (Java required), along with source code and the project proposals.
October 17, 2005:
i finally got around to adding the bio page.
i had my presentation of my senior project today, which went well. i'm proposing to write a physics engine in java. the people on the committee seemed baffled as to what it is i'll be doing, but nonetheless impressed by the technical jargon i produced and the demo i had ready on my laptop.
October 10, 2005:
I just added a lot to the projects section. be sure to check it out...
October 09, 2005:
Yeah so the site is empty right now... i'll get on it.
