Pivot Tables
File: Pivot_Tables.xls
This workbook facilitates summary and analysis of the
water quality database using Excel pivot tables. It is assumed that the user is
generally familiar with pivot tables & Access queries.
See sections on connecting to the access
database and the user
interface.
Several Pivot Table Formats are
provided as examples
.
The user can create a new table by copying an existing table
and pasting it onto a new sheet. The structure of the copied table can
then be modified as desired without changing the original
table.
The menu sheet provides a list of the sample
tables & charts that can be selected in the list box.
Press Ctrl-m to return to
the menu after viewing another sheet.
The pivot tables
retrieve data from the 'master_filtered' query in the
onondaga.mdb file. That query can be modified as desired to restrict the
data to specific dates, site types, etc.
The
fields are defined in the data
dictionary or query definitions.
The 'Inventory'
sheet counts all records in the query in various categories.
To see a listing of the source records in any pivot table cell, double click on it. Excel will create a new worksheet with all of the data. This is very handy for exporing details. Delete the sheet when you are finished viewing it, otherwise the workbook will grow in size over time.
